BLACK SESAME & MATCHA BALLS
Aug 15, 2018The idea for this snack came to me at a Japanese restaurant that served two flavours of ice-cream - black sesame and green tea. I didn't actually order either because I was so full from the sashimi platter but it made me think which one I would prefer and then I wondered what they would taste like together - and now I can confirm that do in fact taste amazing together!
Black sesame seeds (or here we use black tahini which is ground black sesame seeds) are a great source of calcium, magnesium and fibre and have one of the highest levels of phytosterols (helps to reduce cholesterol) of all the nuts and seeds. Matcha powder (or green tea powder) is super high in anti-oxidants and polyphenols and is basically a concentrated source of all of the benefits we get from green tea. It does contain caffeine however it said that an amino acid that is present (L-Theanine) helps to balance the absorption of the caffeine so you get an energy boost without the jitters. Note: This snack is on the sweeter side so is not recommended as a daily snack.
